Everyone enjoys the summer time. Fishing camping, hiking and just plain relaxing in a warm summer breeze seems to revitalize a winter-weary body. People with disabilities, physical and/or mental do not always have the same opportunities as their able-bodied peers.
Mays Mission proudly sponsors several summer camps in Arkansas and around the country. We also sometimes will assist an individual to attend a "special needs" camp or a specialized camp. We feel that when that special opportunity arises and a need is to be met, one should make the effort to seize the moment. If you know of a camp or camper that may need assistance please let us know by writing or email . All requests will be reviewed and considered.
Mays Mission sponsors athletes with disabilities. Mark Carson, the Mission's own Program Representative, was a nationally ranked wheelchair tennis player. A quadriplegic since 1971, Mark knew the firstftime he picked up a tennis racquet that "this game was for me." He competed in the Quad "A" division in tournaments throughout the United States and was ranked as high as number 2 in the nation. Although he no longer competes, Mark continues to play recreationally. He states that "almost anyone in a wheelchair can play if the desire is there. People even play in motorized chairs. If you can move an arm, I believe you can play wheelchair tennis."
