When Keith Mabes first joined Mays Mission in 1980, it was clear that he had potential. But like so many individuals with disabilities seeking meaningful employment, Keith needed support and guidance to grow into his full capabilities.
With patience and encouragement from our staff, Keith dove into the routine work of our inserting department. He learned by doing—repeating tasks, gaining confidence, and mastering his responsibilities one step at a time.
As the years passed, Keith’s dedication and work ethic turned him into a true jack-of-all-trades. He became an essential part of our printing department—an especially meaningful achievement for him, as his late father had worked as a pressman for nearly 40 years. Carrying on that legacy meant a great deal to Keith.
After an incredible 38 years of service, Keith chose to retire. We were sad to see him go, but more than anything, we are proud—proud of his accomplishments, his growth, and the independence he achieved. Keith now owns his own home and car, and it all began with a job that gave him the opportunity to thrive.
At Mays Mission, we believe stories like Keith’s show the power of meaningful employment. For people with disabilities, a paying job is more than just a paycheck—it’s a foundation for self-esteem, confidence, and independence.
Unfortunately, only 32% of Americans with disabilities aged 18 to 64 are currently employed. That leaves 68% depending on organizations like Mays Mission—and caring supporters like you.
Your support makes success stories like Keith’s possible. Every donation you give helps us provide job training and real employment opportunities for people with disabilities who are eager to work but may just need a helping hand.
We also invite you to be part of the solution by requesting and sharing free copies of our brochure, “On-the-Job Training.” This valuable resource offers guidance for local employers who want to make their workplaces more inclusive. Email us at info@maysmission.org and let us know how many you’d like—we’re happy to provide them.
Together, we can continue to change lives, one job at a time.
Thank you for believing in the mission—and in people like Keith.

Hire the disabled and let them into the workforce.
